There may be times when people need support or help in the case of job loss, health changes, or another major life event. This section provides some information about the different types of social and financial services that may be available.
Ontario Works provides financial and employment assistance to
individuals and families who are in need of these services. The goal of
Ontario Works is to help people find employment so that they can support
themselves. Individuals or families may be eligible for employment and
other supports while receiving Ontario Works assistance. Applicants
need to speak with a social worker to find out if they qualify for these
The Ontario Disability Support Program (ODSP) is designed to meet the needs of people with disabilities who are in financial need, or who want and are able to work and need support. Ontarians 65 years or older who are not eligible for Old Age Security may also qualify for ODSP supports if they are in financial need.
